Lord, I cry over humanity’s inhumanity toward one another.

Our government plans to execute a convicted, paralyzed man by firing squad and livestream his death for the public to watch.

I cry over the callousness of those who call themselves Christians yet eagerly await the chance to witness a public execution. I cry for the little children who may be exposed to this cruelty. I cry over those who proclaim themselves “pro-life” yet celebrate state-sponsored killing as a public spectacle.

His guilt does not make his death entertainment.

The truth is, none of us is perfect. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Lord, soften our hearts. Restore our compassion. Help us remember that even when justice is required, humanity and mercy still matter.
